On and Off and Wedding Love

Sorry to be late on posting, but I'm trying to get settled into a new year at school. So much reading! So much to be done! I promise I'll be back with more to share very soon. Awesome idea-she printed her wedding invites on vintage handkerchiefs. A lovely keepsake and better than printing on paper!

I think what I love most about their wedding is the gothic southern charm. Twisted iron railings, chandeliers and old mossen trees...could it get any better?

End of Summer

This week marks my first week back at school-I'm officially a junior! (Hopefully) one more year of college and then I'm out on my own-its quite frightening but relieving knowing I wont have to deal with textbooks, shelling out hundreds for supplies and listening to pretentious 20-somethings in boring lecture classes. ANYWAY. I though I'd leave the summer with a seriously gorgeous wedding shoot done by the gals at OnceWed and Simply Bloom set up for the guest post at Design*Sponge...so dreamy and soft!

Going along with my Design*Sponge addiction, I thought I'd share with everyone some of my favorite homes in Grace's Sneak Peek sections! So many of the artists/designers who allow their homes to be put up on her page are truly inspiring, beautiful and make me yearn for a swanky loft, big country home, or humble house of my own to fill with anything and everything. Flowery Tuesday..?

Instead of picking an Etsy artist for this week's Etsy Tuesday, I thought I'd share with you a fantastic new column on the Design*Sponge website. Sarah Ryhanen is the new contributer to D*S with Weeder's Digest. Sarah is one half of Brooklyn flower and soap shop Saipua. She creates unusual but incredibly gorgeous floral arrangements and shares her knowledge on the D*S site. Her work is english countryside meets old attic. Does that make sense? Loving It!!

Somehow I've become a little obsessed with hair pieces and flowers, particularly for weddings. I saw some gorgeous photos at Brooklyn Bride and then headed on over to Etsy to find more. I am loving these too much!

Artist Profile: Julia Rothman

New Yorker Julia Rothman is all about illustration and pattern. Her amazing talent has produced wallpapers, books, patterns and paintings. Julia's unique style can be seen all over design blogs-shes just that good.

Recently she teamed up with D*S and several other artists to create an online video series called "Design by the Book," where artists visit the New York Public Library, gather information and inspiration, and create a work based on their finds. The series is almost complete, and Julia has found inspiration in an old book based on Navy and sailor uniforms. Can't wait to see the final product!

Julia Rothman is a favorite amongst blogs like Design*Sponge, Decor8 and many many more. She also blogs at Book By Its Cover. I hope one day I can have a little breakfast nook wallpapered with her design.

I found this really cute blog from Marimekko. Always Mod is all about Marimekko products, showing us the greatest and latest from the design house. I found this page for desktop wallpapers-what a fun way to incorporate great design onto your laptop! Everytime I see it, I feel a bit more cool. You can download their wallpapers here. Enjoy!

Design*Sponge Profile

As the weather in Portland continues to confuse me (sun one minute, snow the next! what gives PDX?)  I can always fall back on the amazing talents of Design*Sponge to make me feel good, no matter how gray it is outside.  The folks over at d*s always pick out the coolest design/decorating products in the latest trends–I'm always browsing the "before and after" shots of home restorations and sorting through "mini-trends" (did I mention that purple is hot right now?)  This website motivates me to seek out tiny but inspirational companies and open up shop myself!  Here are some little things I've picked out as my favorites from d*s.

d*s has a great DIY section, but these inside-out security envelopes are SO cool!

A comment left also pointed me in the direction of Joseph King, who is collecting security

 envelopes from around the world.  The patterns that result are awesome!  

   

d*s also has sneak peeks into beautifully designed homes and offices...heres a sample!

Another great section of the site is devoted to Student Design.  It is truly inspiring and motivating to see people only a few years older than me creating unique products and pieces.  

 A big thank you to Design*Sponge for inspiring me with your finds!  In a way I wish I could be working for them. How cool would that be?  So if anyone reads this, definitely check out their blog and hopefully you'll find it as cool as I do.
